Stephanie Seungmin Kim

Stephanie Seungmin Kim, PhD, is an internationally recognized curator, writer, and creative director.

She began her career as the Founding Curator of the Korean Cultural Centre UK, Embassy of the Republic of Korea (2007–2011), where she curated acclaimed exhibitions including Present from the Past, Supervision, and Earth Alert: Photographic Response to Climate Change. Her work bridges museums, film, and global cultural diplomacy, with major projects produced in collaboration with UNESCO, the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), and the International Centre for Documentary Heritage (ICDH).

Her museum collaborations include the first Korea Day at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in 2006, as well as exhibitions with SOMA Museum and Myungwon Museum. She served as Chief Curator of the 1st Jikji Korea International Festival, which welcomed over 40,000 visitors in nine days.

Her films Fragments and Sleepers in Venice—the latter featuring an original soundtrack album and an award-winning documentary—extend her practice into moving image, exploring art’s poetic and collective dimensions.

She holds a PhD from the Royal College of Art, an MA in History of Art from University College London, and an Honours BA from Sotheby’s Institute. Born in Seoul and based between London and New York, she is the founder of Stephanie Kim Gallery (New York), Iskai Contemporary Art (London), and Sleepers Summit (Seoul)—a creative agency working across art, culture, and strategy.

With a career spanning over 80 international exhibitions featuring more than 600 artists in 20+ cities, Stephanie has led major projects, including:

A sought-after speaker and expert commentator, Stephanie writes the monthly column Kimseungmin Curator’s Art Money Market for Hankook Ilbo (Korea Times)—a must-read for collectors and corporate clients. Her insights have appeared in major media outlets including BBC, KBS, The Guardian, and EnVi Media. In 2018, Stephanie produced the Sleepers in Venice documentary, acclaimed for its integration of art and music through a collaboration with Fluxus Music. The film’s OST album was released under the same title. Her second documentary, Fragments, won Best Feature Documentary at the Moscow International Film Festival and was a finalist at the Cannes World Film Festival and New York International Film Awards.
